Frequently Asked Questions

What is live wedding/event painting?

In essence, live painting is when I capture the moment and POV of your choosing in a live setting, with acrylic paints on a gallery-wrapped canvas. Experience aside, this service comes with a timeless keepsake to remember.

How will we be painted?

Each couple wants something different. Popular POVS are First Look, First Dance, a Dip Kiss, etc. Due to the nature of weddings, every vendor has a job to do. When it comes to these POVs, photographers are getting these shots too. To avoid getting in the way of eachother and for me to get a good reference photo, I require the couple to allow me ten minutes, uninterrupted. I cannot rely on a photographer to do their job and assist me with mine by lending me their shot or taking the time to get it to me and onto my device. These photos take minutes or less to get as long as I have full cooperation. Failure to do so puts the entire composition in jeopardy and I will not deliver a sub-par product.

What materials do you use?

Acrylics and special effect acrylic paints on a gallery wrapped canvas sealed in either a matte or gloss varnish.

Will it be done by the end of the night?

Due to the realistic, detailed nature of my style, more than likely your painting will not be finished by the end of the event. It will, however, be camera ready! I take every painting back to my home studio for final touches, details, inspection and varnish to assure that your painting is perfection. Completion depends on my schedule during the time of your event and the size/intricacy of your canvas.

Do you travel?

You bet I will. I will travel by car up to 25 miles free of charge. If your venue is more than 25 miles from my Indianapolis dwelling, additional driving distance will be charged by the mile. Costs for airfare, rental car, and lodging (as needed) must be covered by the client if your venue is not within a reasonable driving distance. All of these options can be calculated during our initial consultation and factored into your package price before making any commitments.

Do you ship and is it guaranteed?

Clients who live within Indianapolis are eligible for delivery or a pick up spot. There are no guarantees unless I deliver it personally, however, if shipped it will be insured. Packaging and shipping costs are not included in package prices and will be calculated upon completion of your painting. The client must pay for shipping of the finished work once an exact quote has been obtained at the post office, unless other arrangements are agreed upon between the client and myself.

I want a different size canvas than you have listed. Is that doable?

Heck ya it is! These canvas sizes are the basics and ballparks. There are many possibilities with canvas size. You're also not limited to just canvas either! I will paint your moment on wood, window glass, etc. If it will hold the paint then I can paint it.

Its my painting but its your work. How do copyrights go?

The painting is yours physically, however, I retain the copyright of digital images containing your finished painting, including the right to show the piece in my portfolio, website, exhibits, competitions, etc. If you want to remain anonymous, that can be arranged if requested. You're allowed to post images on social media for personal and non-commercial use. This includes reproductions for personal/public space. I kindly ask that you do provide attribution to Art of I Do by Kiersten Churchill each time you share the image of your finished painting for personal use.

Who all will be in the painting?

Each composition will include the couple and two "out-of-focus" guests. Additional guests and PETS can be incorporated for a fee that can be discussed during consultation.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I have to cancel or postpone my event date but I've already paid my deposit. What is protocol for refunds?

In the event of your wedding/party cancellation, or postponement to a date and I am not available your deposit will be applied to a studio commissioned painting instead of a live painting.

I wish I would've known about live wedding painting when I got married! Would you paint from a photo?

Absolutely! I hear this one the most. With live wedding painting being somewhat in its infancy, many couples feel they've missed their opportunity. While I cannot turn back the clock, I can realize your moment onto a canvas as if I was there. This applies to any past non wedding event as well.

How do I book?

First, complete the inquiry form, and include all information about your special day that you have available at the time. I will then get back to you at my earliest convenience with my availability, a customized quote, and schedule our consultation.

Moving forward, I will provide my contract and collect a $500 deposit. Once the contract is signed at the deposit paid, your date is secured! The remaining balance will be due 14 days before the event and will be in the contract signed by both parties.

*Please note that my availability may change at any time until your booking is complete.

What is needed in coordination with my venue?

I will bring everything needed. The space needed is approximately 4 x 5', access to a sink and outlet is appreciated. You will need to coordinate with your venue in advance about where and when I can set up.

What does the timeline usually look like on the day-of?

I prefer to have access the location 2-3 hour prior so that I can set up and start working on the background composition before your special moment takes place. Then, I can move my setup to a convenient spot within the reception area and complete the painting while your party is going on.

Every couple and wedding is unique and I am more than happy to discuss how my services can be woven into your extraordinary day.

If your event is more than 2 hours or more away, I will need lodging to ensure safe and timely services. Driving long distances after an event presents a safety risk. This applies to arrival as well; anything can happen on the way there and this is an insurance for your event.
